Windows working Tricks: (applicable to windows XP and its versions)

1.To speed up your windows


Right click on My Computer
-->Properties
-->Advanced
-->Performance - Settings
-->Advanced
-->Virtual Memory - Change
Now keep the initial size same as recommended and maximum size double of it then restart your system.
It will improve speed of windows and you can play some games which require higher RAM.

2.The unwanted start up applications should be closed to improve system speed and performance

Click on Start 

-->RUN

-->Type msconfig          

Click Start up Tab then unmark the applications you don't want to run on start up automatically. Click on apply and restart your computer.

3. You can use F11 to see maximize size of opened window. Press F11 again to restore to your previous view.

4.You can use windows + d button to view your desktop instantly.

5. To Lock a folder in windows XP without any software.

Follow the steps Below.


1. Make a Folder in any drive remember the name say it is test.

2. Now open Command Prompt from Start Menu.

3. Type attrib +s +h drive letter:\test without quotes and press enter.

(This command will Make your folder invisble and it can not be seen even in hidden files and folders )

4. To make it visible again type attrib -s -h drive letter:\test.

5.  the drive letter is c then the command will be attrib -s -h c:\test.

6.You can use Alt + Tab button to see your open windows and can switch between them by selecting it.

7.To intantly open the start button from keyboard (without using mouse). Just press windows button available at keyboard between left Ctrl and Alt button.

8. If you are having good knowledge of computer you can use "regedit" at run to troubleshoot various PC problems. The problem may be from the "Virus". Regedit is the tool to sort out many problems. So have a command on it.                                              

To open regedit do following:-

Click start

-->then click run and type regedit

A new window will be opened. 

                  

*NOTE: Don't edit regedit if you donot know what you are doing. It may harm your computer adversely. 

9. Restoring your computer:-It is very good idea to restore your computer to previous restored point in which your PC is working properly. It will help you to overcome present difficulty arise due to software installation or changing system settting.

Way to restore your computer:-  

Click then click Help and support

Now click on "undo changes to your computer with System Restore" under Pick task menu. Just follow the instruction and your problem will be sort out.

10. To check what work has been done/what programmes has been open through out the day/week. Press  "Ctril+H" from the keyboard after opening my computer.                                                                                                               This will open all the historical data of the windows open/programmes opened etc.   

                    

*This method can help parents to track their children.

11. Important Keyboard shortcuts:-
a) Ctrl+F -For opening search windows


b) Home -For coming in the begining


c) End -Come to the end of line


d) Page Up/Down -Moves up/down in the page


e) F1 - Opens help windows for registry edit.


f) F5 - Refresh the current window


g) Ctrl+R;- For running RUN windows key do.


h) Alt+Esc Switch between open applications in the order they were opened. i)Holding Shift-During Boot holding shift key lead system to boot in safe mode.


j) Windows key+D- Pressing mention combination will show the desktop.


k) Shift+Del- It allow user to delete the contents, without sending it in recycle bin.


l) F4- Move the cursor to point in address bar in internet explorer.


m) Holding Ctrl- You can select multiple items individually by holding down Ctrl key while selecting items.


n) Holding Shift- You can select multiple items inclusively by holding down Shift key while selecting items.


o) Windows key+R- Will open the run dialogue


p) Windows key+M- Minimises all open windows


q) Windows key+Pause-Displays the system properties dialogue


r) Ctrl+A Select all the text in current window

12. Is your PENDRIVE infected with autorun.inf virus:

you are not able to perform format of your pendrive due to autorun.inf.

Here is method to get rid of it (Follow it):-
1.Try to delete autrun.inf from the PD. you might got error message-

Unable to delete, close the program using it.
2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del it opens task manager
3. Go to explore.exe process and End task it.(Dnt worry your desktop icons will disappear)
4.Then go to File->New Task->Type cmd  (command prompt will be open)
5. Now type H: and then press enter(H is the drive containing virus)
6. Now type attrib -s -h -r -a   then press enter
7. Now type del autorun.inf press enter.
8. Here the work done. Restore your desktop icon now.

Go to File->New Task-Type explore then press enter.                                         

9. Now open your PENDRIVE delete any file if having may be file/folder RECYCLER is present delete it. It will get delete now :-).

10. LAST STEP: You can format your pendrive now.

13. Is all your Pen drive/ Memory card folders become shortcuts:


Follow the following steps and solve the problem.


  • Click on Start -->Run --> type cmd and click on OK. 
  • A window will open in front of you known as command prompt
  • Let suppose that your drive letter is H:
  • Enter the following command in command prompt
  • attrib -h -r -s /s /d H:\*.*
  • All your shortcut folders appears as folders in the same place (shortcuts also remain their ,you can delete these shortcuts now as you have original folders now.)
  • If folders doesnot appear there then refresh your pendrive/memory card.


Note : Replace the letter H with your flash drive letter.

 

Now ensure to back up your data to avoid any loss due to virus.
