Arvind Kejriwal Biography

 

 Past Information

Arvind Kumar Kejriwal born on 16th June 1968, in district Hissar (Haryana). He completed his Mechanical engineering in the year 1989 from IIT kharagpur. After completing graduation he joined Tata Steel and worked there till 1992. After it cracked civil services examination and got selected for Indian Revenues Services and positioned as a 'Joint Commissioner' at Income tax office in New Delhi. But he leaved the office in 2000 and started a NGO named 'Privartran'. In February, 2006 he formally resigned from the job and started taking part actively in various social issues. During his life he met 'Mother Teresa' and was highly impressed by her selfless service attitude.

'Parivartan' is one of his famous moves to work towards a corruption free nation. This NGO is run by the many volunteers which has taken out many of the corruption victims from their problems. 'Parivartan' has done extensive work in serving public and in the field of education too. It is still active and spreading awareness among Indians about various social issues and drawing out the benefits of RTI (Right to information) as far it is possible.

Arvind Kejriwal had worked extensively for implementation of Central 'Right to Information Act'. He was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2006, for activating India’s 'Right to Information' movement and social activities to empower the poorest citizens to fight corruption. He invested all the prize money in his NGO for various social activities.

 

Arvind Kejriwal and Jan Lok pal Bill

Another movement which has gain fame for him is the recent struggle for implementation of 'Jan LokPal Bill' in its true form. Lokpal bill movement came in the existence  when Anna Hazare started a fast at Jantar Mantar on 5 April 2011. This movement was supported through out by people from all over the country and the government as a result form a 'joint drafting committee for Lokpal Bill'. Arvind Kejriwal along with Prashant Bhushan, Shanti Bhushan, Santosh Hegde and Kiran Bedi drafted the Jan Lokpal Bill. As the bill was edited and revised many times it was known as the Jan Lokpal Bill. Being an active member of drafting committee and a strong follower of Anna Hazare, makes him a unique and popular personality. “If Anna hazare is regarded as a Heart of Lok pal movement, Kejrival can be treated as brain behind it”. He is the architect behind drafting the bill. Which in turn make him emerged as a youth icon. His main motive is to create India a corruption free country. “He sees corruption as a symptom and not as the main problem”. He also link it with prevailing poverty in the country. According to him Lack of basic needs and shortage of resources give rise to corruption. To deal with this issue he believes in giving more governing power in hands of people. He put stress on decentralisation of the power and distributing it to the smaller factors of governance. Empowering panchayats and gram sabhaas is also a part of his plan. In working in social activities and protesting against goverment he many times along with Anna Hazare and other leaders has been arrested and put in jail. He and his team is always been criticised by Goverment and various well known political leaders for their way of work.

 

Present status

Presently he lives near Delhi with his wife Sunita (working as an Additional Director in Serious Fraud Investigation Office, Ministry of Corporate Affairs) and two kids. He has a team those are working for the betterment of the country's future. He has register his open party on October 2, to take part in political activities actively and directly. He has a clear vision and a working plan to execute it. No doubt he is now in hot issues and working hard to achieve his motto. He has a long way to travel.
